
Business Analyst and Project Controller
Location: Mumbai – Hybrid
Tyler Hill Consulting is seeking a full-time Business Analyst and Project Controller for its renewable energy business based in UK and India.
This is an opportunity to work with the founders and key members of various business teams (including project development, engineering, procurement, construction, business development, fundraising etc.) and contribute directly to the achievement of the company’s financial and strategic goals.
The ideal candidate will have a high level of proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint, strong communication and presentation skills, and attention to detail. The candidate is expected to be intellectually curious, follows news and updates in the energy industry while analyzing the potential business opportunities, and has experience working with complex business and financial models. He/she should be comfortable working in a fast-paced, unstructured environment.
Responsibilities
Business Analysis
- Provide analytical and business development support for various ongoing projects. Understand the commercial and contract structures for the business and support business/project development/fundraising activities.
- Assist in the evaluation of greenfield projects, bids, potential M&A targets and new business initiatives.
- Build detailed financial models backed by due diligence to support business decisions (for project development, partnerships, bids, new technology investments, fundraising etc) and present the analytical findings in a clear and concise manner.
- Collaborate with internal and external teams in support of proposals, presentations, and other evaluations of renewable energy and storage business opportunities.
- Participate in implementation of specific strategic or operational initiatives.
- Prepare updates / presentations on business plan / operations for board-level and internal review meetings.
- Analyse business performance on monthly basis and highlight critical areas.
- Participate in all important meetings, prepare notes and action items.
- Keep track of critical deadlines and provide updates on the status after connecting with respective leaders.
- Drafting articles, thought-pieces, presentations and speeches for the organization for both internal and external forums.
Market Assessment
- Monitor industry developments, competitor activities, and market dynamics to identify opportunities and risks for the organization.
- Conduct comprehensive analysis of energy market trends, including renewable energy and storage adoption, policy framework, regulatory environment, business models and emerging technologies to support market strategy.
- Assess risks and challenges associated with renewable energy and storage projects, including regulatory compliance, market uncertainties, and technological barriers.
- Identify risk mitigation strategies and contingency plans to address potential challenges and ensure project success.
Project Control
- Provide project controls expertise to solar PV, wind and energy storage projects (C&I and utility-scale)
- Meticulously lead the development and administration of the master schedule.
- Develop and maintain the single project schedule representing the entire project by integrating inputs from all functions, units and third parties contributing to the project.
- Ensure proper linkages in schedule to show all interdependencies between contributing parties.
- Ensure functional owners sign off on commitments and are made accountable for their date.
- Work collaboratively with other overall project planning team to ensure optimal alignment of schedule with overall schedule.
- Delivers a high-quality schedule aligned with global standards to ensure project is accurately represented.
- Maintain schedule thru the entire project obtaining inputs from all project contributors.
- Drive regular operating rhythm with project team to review schedule status and operating rhythm.
- Challenge functional owners on forecast completion dates to ensure dates are realistic.
- Provide schedule analysis to forecast schedule risk and opportunities using available tools and experience.
- Provide look ahead, backlog and future late reporting with prioritizations to clearly communicate potential and real risk and drive the project priorities.
- Generate “what if” scenarios to optimize execution and works with project teams to evaluate feasibility.
- Provide strategies to mitigate risks.
- Drive functional owners to mitigate risks and follows up with functional owners on risk mitigation actions.
- Provide and communicate regular status reporting.
- Serve as the main point of contact for project controls by interfacing directly with project development lead, vendors, and various internal teams.
- Proactively analyze schedules for risk and lead strategy sessions to identify solutions.
- Oversee third-party schedule updates by setting a regular reporting rhythm, evaluating schedule quality, offering feedback as needed, and integrating updates into the overarching master schedule.
- Lead schedule analysis and deliver insights to internal and vendor teams, including critical path monitoring, forecast variances, and key risks.
- Conduct thorough assessments of vendor change order requests to determine their potential impact on the project timeline, ensuring effective schedule management.
- Lead dynamic schedule review meetings with project teams, fostering collaborative discussions and ensuring proactive timeline adjustments.
- Drive accurate cash flow forecasting through meticulous alignment of schedule and budget. Communicate cost status/forecasts/risk to functional cost owners and drives/supports risk mitigation
- Presents all financial data in a transparent way, attends project and management review to present cost status and actions
- Analyse all the risks and opportunities communicate clearly priorities and potential impacts
- Actively contribute to enhancing project control processes and procedures, aiming for greater efficiency and effectiveness in project management.
- Collaborate on developing the strategy for continuous innovation and support the design and architecture of new products and tools to serve external renewable energy project developers and investors through THR’s platform
Requirements
- Bachelor’s/Master’s Degree/Professional Qualification in Engineering, Finance, Economics, Business, or a related academic field from a reputed education institute.
- 1-5 years of experience as a business/financial analyst in a renewable energy/infrastructure business or an or an advisory firm.
- Strong knowledge and conceptual understanding of Power and Renewable Energy Industry. Familiarity with policy dynamics, regulatory changes and technological advancements impacting the energy/electricity markets. Understanding of commercial, regulatory, technical and operational aspects of the renewable energy business.
- Strong technical project control acumen and a firm grasp of standard scheduling practices. Deep experience managing project budgets and implications across contracts, change orders, contingency planning, liquidated damages, and other applicable scenarios. Experience using scheduling software (Microsoft Project, Primavera, Smartsheet).
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong quantitative skills (including financial modeling skills).
- Strong analytical skills with proficiency in data analysis, market modeling, and financial assessment (including valuations and credit analysis).
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex concepts in a clear and compelling manner. Ability to articulate complex issues through concise, cohesive summaries and presentations.
