
Head of Grid Delivery
Location: United Kingdom – London/Remote – Hybrid
Tyler Hill Consulting are currently looking for Head of Grid Delivery who will be responsible for business development of our newly set up Independent Connection Provider (ICP) services business and ensure delivery of ICP projects pipeline to energization throughout the design, procurement, construction, and commissioning phases. We are seeking an experienced Techno-Commercial Manager with a strong background in the Independent Connection Provider (ICP) process, electrical design and build, and substation construction. The ideal candidate will have expertise in managing the full project lifecycle, including legal and technical aspects, and a proven track record of delivering projects to high standards, on time, and within budget. This role is critical in ensuring the growth of our business and successful delivery of high-voltage (HV) and low-voltage (LV) projects, including substations, across Industrial & Commercial and Renewable Energy sectors.
The purpose of this role will be to work closely with our existing and future customers to identify, develop and secure new opportunities for demand and generation electricity connection projects primarily in the UK. This will involve both technical input and negotiation. You will manage commercial risks and secure financial commitment from our clients in order to meet the company sales targets.
As Head of Delivery, you will be responsible for overseeing the design and technical aspects of ICP projects which will include working with the design and engineering teams, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and maintaining the quality and integrity of technical documentation. You will establish and lead a team of project and construction management professionals/sub-contractors who will be responsible for the safe and high-quality construction of grid connection assets. We are looking for someone who has extensive knowledge of all grid works related policies, regulations and methodologies, relevant Construction and Health & Safety standards and regulations across the UK is required, along with strong technical expertise in electricity networks, relevant ENA Engineering Recommendations, and grid connection methodologies.
The successful candidate will act as a bridge between engineering, project management, and client stakeholders, guaranteeing that design and technical objectives align with project requirements.
Responsibilities
Business Development
- Identify and target potential clients/opportunities through market research, cold outreach, networking, and referrals. Qualify leads by understanding various client considerations, and decision-making processes. Maintain detailed records of leads, interactions, and opportunities in the CRM system.
- Prepare presentations and demonstrations on business development opportunities for customers. Schedule meetings between prospective clients and internal engineering teams. Participate in tendering and proposal processes by providing technical input, scope development, and estimation for new projects.
- Conduct competitor analysis and market research to develop roadmap and sales strategy to secure new business.
- Conduct marketing campaigns and attend trade shows, job fairs etc. in order to increase company’s recognition.
- Stay current with ICP industry trends, policies, regulations and procedures, government incentives, and competitive offerings.
- Maintain and establishing relationships with industry bodies and network operators.
- Maintain strong relationships with current and potential customers for future business growth.
- Consistently meet or exceed activity metrics (calls, emails, meetings set) and pipeline targets.
Project Delivery
- Oversee the planning, execution, and completion of a portfolio of grid connection projects, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
- Interface with the multidisciplinary design team, providing technical guidance and support for project delivery across the UK.
- Develop and review design documentation, including specifications, schematics, plans, and reports, to ensure accuracy and quality.
- Manage the technical interface with clients and stakeholders, addressing design queries and concerns, and providing expert advice.
- Conduct regular project reviews to identify and mitigate technical risks and ensure project objectives are met.
- Oversee compliance with regulatory and industry standards, including G99/G100, ENA, DNO, and relevant Health & Safety requirements.
- Collaborate closely with the project management team, contributing to project planning, resource allocation, and cost management.
- Demonstrate excellent knowledge of CDM 2015 requirements, with competence in establishing safe working practices.
- Oversee all construction activities associated with connecting ICP project portfolio to distribution networks and transmission operators in the UK.
- Develop and manage project budgets, ensuring effective cost control and financial performance.
- Maintain strong relationships with subcontractors, design teams, suppliers, network operators, and owner’s engineers, ensuring effective communication and coordination throughout the project delivery lifecycle.
- Coordinate activities with local authorities, adhering to NRSWA and HAUC standards.
- Ensure continuous improvement of design processes, implementing best practices and industry advancements.
- Implement rigorous quality assurance and control processes to ensure all construction work meets or exceeds the technical specifications and industry standards. Conduct audits, address non-conformances, and ensure compliance with specifications.
- Provide regular reports and updates to senior management and stakeholders on project progress, financial performance, and risk management.
- Secure feedback and maintain positive client relationships.
- Establish and lead a team of project managers, project engineers, and construction management professionals, fostering a culture of safety, excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Provide mentorship and development opportunities for junior engineers and design staff, fostering a high-performance culture.
Requirements
- 10+ years of experience in project delivery, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role in the electricity transmission/distribution or renewables sectors.
- Expert knowledge and understanding of the ICP business, ICP processes and DNO/IDNO requirements.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or a related field. A master’s degree or relevant professional certifications (e.g., PMP, CCM) is a plus.
- Demonstrated experience with the design, construction, management, and delivery of high-voltage electrical connections, substations, and associated infrastructure with a focus on safety, timelines, quality, and cost.
- Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Excellent project management skills, including planning, budgeting, and resource allocation.
- Strong technical knowledge of electrical design, build, and commissioning processes.
- Familiarity with legal agreements such as wayleaves, easements, and land access.
- Strong knowledge of UK regulatory and industry standards for electrical connections (G99, G100, ENA, and DNO requirements).
- Proficiency in design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, Power Systems Analysis tools) and experience with design documentation management.
- Proven track record of leading design teams and collaborating with project management and client stakeholders.
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills, with the ability to manage and motivate a team effectively.
- Experience with hybrid working environments and the flexibility to travel for project site visits when required.
- Demonstrated ability to manage large-scale projects and maintain relationships with multiple stakeholders and multi-disciplinary teams.
- Experience working successfully on multiple projects with demanding deadlines.
